How to measure your ring size – Ring Size Guide
This is by far the question I get asked most as a jeweller. So I decided to compile a handy ring size guide for you, to get your new ring fitting perfectly.
Pop into your nearest jeweller
At the end of the day this is the most accurate way to measure your ring size. Any jeweller close to you will be able help you in a few seconds to measure your finger, and then you can rest assure that your ring will fit perfectly. All jewellers use the same size measurements in South Africa where the ring sizes are shown in letters.
But I know that you are probably comfy at home doing some online shopping, and running to your nearest jeweller sounds like way too much effort at this moment.
So here is the best and quickest way to do it at home…
Measuring at Home
The most accurate way to measure your ring size at home is to measure the inside diameter of one of your favourite rings. Get one of your rings that fits nicely and measure the inside diameter in mm’s as accurately as you can.
Place your ring on a ruler like in the example picture below to measure. Make sure to not add the metal of the ring to your measurement. You should only be measuring the width of the inside of the ring right in the middle.
Once you have measured the diameter in mm’s you can accurately see what ring size you are on the chart below. Scroll down to see what letter ring size you are.
Extra Tips
- Measuring the circumference of your finger with a piece of string is not an accurate way to measure your ring size. The size will almost always end up way too big.
- Remember that your fingers swell on hot days. They can swell up to 1 or 2 sizes bigger. So keep in mind on what day you are measuring your finger.
- The fingers on your right hand are always about a size bigger than your left hand.
- The broader the ring, the tighter it will sit. So if you are planning to get a broad ring or many stacking rings for one finger, add a size or half a size for a comfy fit.
