About Kinkel Jewellery
I am Marleen Van Wyk, a creative, ambitious and bubbly lady from Cape Town who has a great love for jewellery design and all things creative. I finished my Jewellery design degree at Stellenbosch University in 2011, including a 6 month design course in Germany at the Pforzheim Design School where I learnt many exciting techniques. After my studies I travelled Europe for a year looking for some inspiration and then returned to the great SA to continue my jewellery career. I finished a two year Goldsmith Internship to sharpen my technical skills and learn some jewellery trade secrets. With this combination of design and technical skills I then created my own jewellery label, Kinkel Jewellery. Kinkel Jewellery is the culmination of creative and whimsical jewels, inspired by nature and patterns found in my surroundings. Each piece is uniquely designed and handmade by me. Many of my jewels are inspired by South Africa’s rich Fauna and Flora. My aim is to make beautiful and elegant jewellery with handmade precision; pieces of art for everybody to wear and enjoy.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with so many elements and techniques that it is difficult to describe in a few words. Below you will find a few areas that I work in and currently use in my pieces. If you are looking for something specific that is not listed below, please get in touch with me for assistance.
Choosing the right metal for each jewellery piece is very important. As a qualified metalsmith I can work in all types of metal. My designer pieces are all made with silver and gold.
The gemstone defines the jewellery piece. South Africa is rich in gemstones that come in amazing colours and shades. I can help you source your perfect stone or create a ring with your birthstone.
Pearls are symbols of elegance and purity. I absolutely love working with them and have created many subtle as well as intricate pieces. They are the jewels of the ocean and work well in any setting.
Planning your wedding or thinking of popping the question? I love helping happy couples designing their wedding or engagement rings. I can help you source a diamond or precious stones. I can also design jewels for your bridesmaids or groomsmen.
Who said men can’t wear jewellery too. I design rings, necklaces, tie pins and cufflinks for men.
The Sea Urchin Range is my latest and favourite Kinkel jewellery line. I make unique jewellery from Cape Sea Urchin shells which I collect when scuba diving in False Bay.
Engraving can make your jewellery piece extra special. I can refer you to professional companies for either hand or laser engraving.
I am continuously experimenting with new materials and techniques. If you have something new or different in mind, please get in touch with me.
I design by hand or computer (CAD) methods according to your specific requirements. Whether you need a new piece, repairs or alterations, you can rest assured that your design requirements will be met.
